Help with a baby blanket!

Hi there! I’m working on a baby blanket and I’m a bit confused. Here is the link to the pattern : https://lifestyle.howstuffworks.com/crafts/knitting/free-knitting-patterns-for-baby-blankets3.htm

I’m confused about making the border. It says for one edge, to pick up 108 sts and then for the other, to pick up 86. However, the blanket itself is 100 sts wide and 218 rows long. Can anyone help me figure out what I’m missing?! Thanks in advance

It’s not necessary to pick up 1stitch for 1 row or stitch for stitch on a border. Picking up too many sts along the side of the rows may cause the edge to ripple. Your pattern is presumably giving you numbers that will work with the border rib. If your finished size is close to the pattern size given then try the numbers for the border as stated in the instructions. If it doesn’t look right to you, you can always change the sts picked up.

Ok, that makes sense! Thank you so much!
