Can anyone help and tell me what I’ve done wrong here? Do any of you know a good book or online resource that contains common knitting mistakes and how to fix them?
It looks like the stitch nearest the tip of the right needle and the one nearest the tip of the left needle didn’t get knit on the last row. The yarn is looped in back or in front of the stitch.
For the stitch on the right needle, slip it off the needle, bring the yarn loop to the front (so the loop is facing you) and pull the loop through the stitch to the back. Then that new stitch can be placed on the right needle.
For the stitch on the left needle, pull the loop through the stitch to the back.
