HELP - what does this mean?

I’m at the end of my sweater - bottom half and it says to…
knit 2 1/2 ins. of 1X1 rib. What is a 1X1 rib mean??

1x1 rib is K1, P1 and when you turn your work you will knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches as they appear. In other words the stitches that you knit the previous row will now be purled and vice versa. It makes a stretchy edging to sleeves and waists and necks and tops of socks etc.

It’s in the round, so wouldn’t I just k1, p1 for the 2 1/2 inches?

Ooo, ooo, I know this one!

Yes, you do just go round and round in K1 P1 – just make sure you have the right number of stitches on your needles.

you are going to knit one purl one, and when you turn the work you will do the opposite. purl one, knit one…
in other words you will knit the knits and purl the purls
see this

and in round … yes you will just k1 p1
