Help w/increase in Candle Flame shawl

Hello-- I’m new to this forum. I’m trying to knit the Candle Flame Shawl http://web.archive.org/web/20020624070248/www.balart.com/CANDLE.HTM

The instructions for the “double increase” are K, YO, K. It’s explained as K1, YO, K1 into the same stitch. For whatever reason this makes NO semse to me!! If anyone out there could explain this to me, I’d appreciate it!

Knit into the stitch, but don’t slide it off. Bring the yarn forward between the needles and knit the stitch again, then slide it off. You’ll have your k, yo, k!
