Help w/ deciphering pattern please!

I’m starting a cowl & cable poncho by Knit One, Crochet Too, Inc., the pattern starts as:

Row 1: K1,p1,rep from to center…
Row 2: knit the knit st and purl the purl st
Row 3: P1, *SR,p2,RBC,p2,TR,p2…
Row 4: rep row 2
Continue in this manner… (which I take to mean follow the established patterns)

SR= slipped rib
worked over 1 st, 2-row repeat
Row 1: Knit
Row 2: Sl 1 w/ yarn in front

My question is about Row 4. If I knit all knit st and purl all the purl st, why would they even have the Slipped Rib as part of the pattern? Do I slip the stitch purlwise instead of purl it for this row?

Any help would be appreciated.:muah:

Don’t slip the stitch again, you have to work it at some point. You would probably purl it so it looks like a knit on the RS.

Am I wrong thinking that Row 3 that lists all the patterns, like SR, RBC, etc. would be the 1st row in the specific pattern repeats? So Row 3 of the actual pattern would be to knit (as in the first row of the SR repeat). I need to know if in row 4, when it says knit the knit stitches and purl the purls, when I get to where I did the SR part(K1) in the row previously(row3), do I follow the pattern repeat to slip the stitch or follow the actual pattern to purl that stitch. Is this making sense?
