Hi-
I’m making a sweater for the first time, but I’ve been knitting for a while. Anyway, the following instructions have me totally flummoxed. Could someone break it down for me?
Shape shoulders. At each side, bind off 8 stitches 4 times, 9 stitches on each side once - 26 stitches remain for neck.
Bind off remaining stitches.
( Does this mean bind off 8 stitches, knit until the last 8 stitches, and bind those off… really? I have no idea)
I keep reading this cause it does read like that…but the few kid sweaters I have done have had you bo off the first 8sts then finish that row…then on the next row bo off 8 sts on that side:think:
I am assuming you are doing stockinette stitch. I think what it means is:
Row 1 (RS): BO 8 sts. Knit the rest
Row 2: BO 8 sts. Purl the rest
Row 3: BO 8 sts. Knit the rest
Row 4: BO 8 sts. Purl the rest
Row 5: BO 8 sts. Knit the rest
Row 6: BO 8 sts. Purl the rest
Row 7: BO 8 sts. Knit the rest
Row 8: BO 8 sts. Purl the rest
Row 9: BO 9 sts. Knit the rest
Row 10: BO 9 sts. Purl the rest
After this, you should have 26 sts. Are you starting with 108 sts?
Edited to add: Don’t take my word for it. Please wait till another expert knitter comes along
