Help understanding pattern

Gable facade square

Elongated sts: insert needle 3 rows below, (k1, p1, k1) into 3 gathered strands.
Elongated / Ornament sts diagrams:
1 2 3

Can someone help me with these instructions for the elongated stitch in this pattern?

Thank you

Lovely square.

The instructions begin with a dip stitch (step #1) which is shown in the beginning of this video. The particulars in regard to number of rows down and which stitch is worked into are different but the idea is the same.

Once you’ve got 3 loops on the right needle (the k1, p1, k1, step #2) turn to the knit side and purl those 3 sts (step #3). Then turn to the purl side and (step #4) work a centered double decrease by slipping the first two sts together as if to knit, knit 1, pass slipped sts over.

You can delete the first scan as the pattern link gives us enough information. Use the pencil icon at the bottom right of the post to edit.

This just came from ravelry as a correction to pattern.
More elongated stitch description.
What does it mean release top stitches.

!

You really don’t have to do anything in order release the top stitches. When you put the needle into the stitch 3 rows down, the later rows will ladder down to that stithc.
