Help Understanding My Pattern

Hello I have not been on for awhile. I have started a new project & am having difficulty understanding my pattern. Hope you can help.

This is my pattern instruction>

[COLOR=“DarkRed”]Divide sts evenly onto size 8 dpn’s, being careful not to twist sts. Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up. Work even in St st (k EVERY rnd) for 2".
Dec Rnd: * K2 tog, k7(8), rep from * around – 64(72) sts. Work 3 rows even. Continue to dec in this manner, having 1 less st between dec’s every 4th rnd 7(8) times more – 5 sts.[/COLOR]

Am I using 2 or 3 # 8 dpn’s

Work even in St st (k every rnd). Isn’t stocking stitch one row plain & one row purl?

You are knitting in the round so you will be using 4 dpns. Your stitches will be divided onto 3 of your needles and the fourth will be the one you knit onto. Watch the video on small diameter knitting here and that will help.

When you knit flat stockinette stitch is done by knitting one row and purling the next. That is because you flip your work from right side to wrong side so when your right side is facing you, you knit and when your wrong side is facing you, you purl.

When you knit in the round, your right side is always facing out, so to do a stockinette stitch, you only knit. Your purl side is always on the inside of your work.

Thank you so much. Your explanations are very clear, all I have to do is go out & get my dp needles & continue on my project. I will let you know should I need more help but will definately show you my finished project.

Still working on hat pattern, using dpn’s. I am not clear on the following instructions.

Dec Rnd: * K2 tog, k7(8), rep from * around – 64(72) sts. Work 3 rows even. Continue to dec in this manner, having 1 less st between dec’s every 4th rnd 7(8) times more – 5 sts.

Does that mean that I decrease by k2tog, k6 then 3 even rows. Then I do k2tog, k5 then 3 even rows. This until I get the am’t of required stitche (5).

Yes, after you do 3 rounds with no decs you go to k6 between decs, then k5, k4, k3, etc. With 3 rounds between every dec round.
