Help understanding instructions, please?

Hi! I’m new to knitting. My grandma picked out a sweater pattern that she thought would be easy, but now we’re unsure of one line in the instructions. It says “Dec 1 st each end of next row, then every 4½” twice more – 49(55-61-67-73-79) sts.”

It’s the twice more bit that’s throwing us. Does that mean every 4 1/2 inches I need to decrease or is it something else?

Thanks for any help!

Also, if it’s helpful, this is the link to the pattern: http://www.berroco.com/patterns/loquat

Welcome!

Yes, you decrease on the next row, then every 4 1/2 inches after that twice, so at 4 1/2 and 9 inches from the first set of decreases.

Thank you so much! I understand it now.
