Help understanding instructions - Ninon cardigan

Hi everyone,

Still working on my Ninon cardigan by Yarnflakes (Audrey Borrego Designs) and I just would like to check whether I understand the instructions correctly as it’s my first garnment project. The pattern is a top-down. So far, I’ve worked the upper back. The designer asks to " work until the back measures 23 cm from the cast-on edge" (for my size). So far so good.

The next step is the lower back. Designer says : “You will now start working the edge sts as purl sts and cast-on new sts for the side seams.”. I think I understand what to do, but I’m not sure I understand where that step is on the pattern. Are these extra stitches under the arms? So that I can seam the pieces together at the end?

Thanks for any insight you can offer!

Sounds like these extra sts are at the underarm as you thought. These extra sts will probably be seamed to corresponding extra sts on the sleeve when you work the finishing steps.
This also sounds like one of those very careful patterns that tells you ahead of time what is going to happen next and will then go into the details on how-to.

Thanks @salmonmac, that gives me peace of mind! Yes, I have tons of questions because I’m unexperienced but the pattern is very thoughtfully written and includes links to tutorials for every recommended technique.
