Help requested with increases in a hat pattern

I am working on my first hat and my first project on DPNs and so far, so good!

And then I got to this line in the pattern:

“Work one more round of ribbing, increasing 8 stitches evenly spaced around the circle by lifting the bar between the stitches below and knitting into the back of this stitch, twisting it.”

Ack!

I tried to figure out what that meant but am having real trouble and I don’t want to do the wrong thing. Can anyone help me figure out which one of Amy’s videos is the proper match for this technique (if there even is one?) I currently have 72 stitches, and have done about 1 inch of K1,P1 ribbing for the base of the hat. (I’m doing the worsted weight version)

The complete pattern can be found here: http://tiajudy.com/simplestcap.htm

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

They’re looking for a M1 increase, here.

Beautiful! Thank you for clearing that up! Not sure why the pattern didn’t ust say “M1 increase”! :teehee:

I’ve noticed that when patterns are written, and this is true in MOST cases, the writer often assumes that the one doing the pattern already knows what they’re talking about. So to write do a M1 increase, would be too simplex, and most writers of patterns don’t really think about it at the time.

I think that sometimes the description of HOW to do the stitch is more helpful than just naming the stitch, but not knowing what the increase is called makes it hard to try to look up more info about it. It seems to go either way.
