i’m making some silly socks for my niece.
starting after the toe i was knitting a spiral pattern that i planned to continue on the back of the socks after the heel. i was doing a simple 5 stitch repeat of k4/p1, and when i got to the end of the instep and started on the bottom side, i did plain stockinette, then picked up the pattern again where i’d left off once i made it back to the instep again…
so, in my 24-stitch side it was k4/p1/k4/p1/k4/p1/k4/p1/k4… then bottom stitches… then instep again p1 (to finish that part of the pattern, k4/p1/k4, etc… when i did a quickie chart for it, it ended up being a 5-round repeat. a la:
VVVV=VVVV=VVVV=VVVV=VVVV
=VVVV=VVVV=VVVV=VVVV=VVV
V=VVVV=VVVV=VVVV=VVVV=VV
VV=VVVV=VVVV=VVVV=VVVV=V
VVV=VVVV=VVVV=VVVV=VVVV=
where the Vs are knits and the =s are purls… except… i’ve already messed up twice on it and had to frog back.
the 2nd time around i tried just checking for the purl stitches so i could use them visually as placeholders, and that worked well for about 3 rows, and then i messed up on both the 4th and 5th rows… so i still haven’t made it past one pattern section.
so… tips/tricks for remembering the pattern, or where i am in the pattern? better visual cues, maybe?
