Help reading pattern....so confused :)

I am attempting to create this fish hat

under Shape Body it says work 4.75 inches decrease round 1 then work 2.5 inches decrease round 2, etc… Does this mean that I knit the stockinette for 4.75 inches but decrease it during the first round then when knitting the 2.5 inches knit the first round normal then during the second round of the 2.5 inches decrease and the 1.5 inches decrease when I get to the third round of that 1.5 inches? I hope this makes sense…:aww:

I don’t know what you said for sure. :lol: But here is what the pattern says:

Work 4.75 inches in stockinette st.
Decrease Round 1: [K8, k2tog] 9 times. 81 sts.
Work 2.5 inches in stockinette st.
Decrease Round 2: [K7, k2tog] 9 times. 72 sts.
Work 1.5 inches in stockinette st.
Decrease Round 3: [K6, k2tog] 9 times. 63 sts.
Work 1.5 inches in stockinette st.
Decrease Round 4: [K5, k2tog] 9 times. 54 sts.
Work 0.75 inch in stockinette st.
Decrease Round 5: [K4, k2tog] 9 times. 45 sts.
Work 1.5 inches in stockinette st.
Decrease Round 6: [K2tog] to last 3 sts, k3tog. 22 sts.

What it means is to work in St st for 4.75 inches and then you work the first decrease round as given in the next line. Then work 2.5 inches and do the second decrease round. Work for 1.5 inches and do dec rnd 3. Work another 1.5" and work dec rnd 4. Work .75" and work dec rnd 5. Work 1.5" and do dec rnd 6 as given.

Does that make sense?
