Help-popcorn stitch doesn't look right

I’M MAKING MY FIRST AFGHAN AND I’M NOT SURE I UNDERSTAND OR AM CORRECTLY FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR WORKING POPCORN (IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE A LITTLE BALL, BUT MINE DOESN’T). I WAS SLIPPING EACH COMPLETED STITCH FROM THE RIGHT NEEDLE BACK ONTO THE LEFT NEEDLE SO I WOULD USE THE SAME STITCH EVERY TIME. OBVIOUSLY NOT RIGHT.

THE INSTRUCTIONS READ AS FOLLOWS: (K,P,K,P,K) ALL IN NEXT STITCH, PASS SECOND, THIRD, FOURTH, AND FIFTH STITCH ON RIGHT NEEDLE OVER FIRST STITCH.

PLEASE HELP WITH CLEARER INSTRUCTION.

You shouldn’t slip the stitch off the needle at all until all the stitches have been knitted in it. So knit into the stitch, but don’t slide it off, bring the yarn forward between the needles and purl into the same stitch, but still don’t slide it off. Knit, purl and knit into the same stitch again and then slide it off. You’ll have 5 stitches where you had one.
