HELP! pleaseeee

can someone please explain the following pattern to me??? prettttty please? im a super beginner but ive learned how to purl and knit. Ive put any questions i have in ( )'s. Thank you for any help in advance!!!

Multiple: 10 + 2 (how many do i cast on? 12?)

Instructions:

Row 1 (right side):K1; *P1, YO, K8, YO, P1: rep from * to last st, K1. (if i only cast on 12 how can i K8 and rep from the *?)

Row 2: K1; *K2, P8, K2; REP FROM * TO LAST ST, K1

Row 3: K1;*P2, YO,K8,YO,P2; rep from * to last st, K1

Row 4: K1;*K3, P8, K3; rep from * to last st, K1

Row 5: K1; *P3, YO, K8, YO, P3;rep from * to last st, K1

Row 6: K1;*K4, P8, K4; rep from * to last st, K1

Row 7: K1; *P4, (K4tog) twice, P4; rep from * to last st, K1 (what does K4tog mean?)

Row 8: knit

Row 9: K1, Purl to last st, K1

Row 10: Knit.

Repeat Rows 1 though 10 for pattern

For the number of sts you cast on the multiple times how many times you want to repeat the pattern across, then 2 more. For this one you can do 12 or 22 or 32.

So if you were to CO 22, you’d do what’s between the *s (P1, YO, K8, YO, P1) twice. If you only use 12 sts, you don’t repeat it.

K4tog means you knit 4 sts at once. Look on the Decreases page for k2tog, it’s the same, but with 4 sts.

How do you get 12 22 or 32? could i do 42? or 52? ect ect? am i just going up by 12? how do you know how many you Cast ons you stop at?

Are you knitting a scarf or a afghan? If it is a scarf one or two repeats of the pattern stitch should be enough for the width. If it is an afghan, it may take ten or twelve repeats of the pattern stitch. Your pattern says a multiple of 10 +2 means that you cast on in amounts of 10, 10 20 30 and at the end of the repeats you have 2 stitches to balance the repeats. I hope this helps.

No you go up by 10s, the number of sts that are repeated. It’s 10x2 or x3, or x5, then add 2 on the end = 52. How many sts depends on how wide you want it. If you’re making a scarf you probably want about 22 or 32 sts. If you’re making a dishcloth, then 42 or 52.

i want to make a baby blanket… 72? 102?

Something like that. First you need to figure out how many sts per inch you get in the yarn and needles you want to use. Cast on 22 sts and knit 2-3" in the pattern to see what that is. Then multiply the sts/inch times how wide you want it - 28" 32", whatever. Then do a multiple of 10 plus 2 and you’ll need about 5 sts at the beginning and end of the row for a garter st border. So that adds another 10 inches.

Say you get 5 sts per inch and you want it about 30", that would be 150 sts, which divides by 10, then add 2 sts, for 152 total. That works out to 142 sts for your pattern, plus 10 sts for a border.

this is starting to make my head hurt
