I’m knitting a sweater and have completed the back, have almost completed front but am unsure what the shaping shoulders part means where it mentioned the following part saying “every 4th row”
Shape Shoulders
All sizes
In every second row, on each side, BO 3 sts once, 2 sts twice, 1 st three times (10 sts decreased) and then in every 4th row 1 st twice 4 (5, 6, 7, 8, 9) times. (8, 10,12,14,16,18 sts decreased)
18 (20, 22, 24, 26, 28) sts reduced on each side. 5 sts remain on each side.
BO remaining stitches.
Weave in any remaining ends.
It says above “every 4th row twice (8 times)? The front section as I said is all most complete and almost the same length as the finished back so if I do whatever this means every 4th row, the front will be longer on the shoulders than the back.
Hope this makes sense, please let me know if any further information is required.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Hi Salmonmac, thank you for your reply. It’s called Everyday Play date Sweater from Lovecrafts. It says it’s written in US crochet, the gauge is correct.
Thank you Kez
The row gauge should be close to 42 rows in 4 inches. As far as the “every 4th row 1 st twice” goes, the twice is unnecessary. You’re working the decreases on each side as you have been.
On the front, the neck shaping and the armhole shaping continue until there seems to be only a few sts remaining depending on the size you are making. You’re working the 5th size?
Do the armholes line up with the armholes on the back, that is, distance hem to armhole bind off is the same? And the neck shaping is at the correct distance from the hem? Sorry for all the questions but as you suspect, the front and back should be the same finished length.
This looks like raglan increases on either side of a raglan stitch. Maybe a cardigan.
Work the sts in the parentheses 4 times.
(YO, Sm, knit 1, YO, knit the next marker)
You’ll be doing the YO before the marker and then after the knit stitch then knitting up to the next marker.
