Help Please

Hi! I am a retired 65 year old and trying to teach myself to knit. I finished my first project, a multicolored potholder knitted with two strands together. My next project will be a cable scarf. I am using the booklet from Boye “I Taught Myself to Knit.” The pattern for the scarf (page 56) starts with cast on 36 st., then it goes on to Row 1: (RS) *K1,P1. Rep from * to end of row.

My question is, what does the RS in parenthesis mean? TIA

It stands for “Right Side”. Every time u start knitting a row at that end of the piece, you will be knitting on the right side.

That makes sense, thanks knitcindy!

Means that is the right side of your knitting
