Help please

My pattern says…
Rib 9, (YO, K2tog, rib 8) 2 times, YO, K2 tog, rib 9

What does this mean? Thanks

Hi Jane please provide us with a link or the name of the pattern. According to what you have provided it states to do ribbing for 9 sts yhen yo , knit 2 together and rib 8 sts this is repeated twice then. The last part says to. Yarn over k2 together and rib the last nine sts. I cannot be absolutely sure without seeing the pattern. What are you making?

Welcome to the forum!
This may be directions for yarn over (YO) buttonholes in ribbing. Repeat only the portion in parentheses twice. The direction to “rib” means to work your ribbing stitch (k1, p1 or k2, p2 or whatever) over the given number of stitches. A yarn over is simply bringing the yarn to the front between the needles, then over the right needle to the back.
Counting the yarn overs, your stitch count will stay the same.
