Help please

I am a beginner knitter and have trouble with the abreviations. I have been pretty successful in finding what most of them mean except for the part in the instructions saying something like multiple of 4 sts +1. I understand the mulitple of 4 sts but not the +1. What does this mean??? :?? ?? PLEASE HELP ME, I’M SOO LOST WITH THIS ONE! :??

It’s just a way to tell you how many you’d need to cast on to make a certain pattern. So if a pattern has 4 + 1 it can be any multiple of 4 plus 1 more, so 9, 13, 17, etc.

thank you so much. I am working on a baby blanket :XX: where I am using the garter stitch around the edges and then a different one in the center that called for mulitple of 4 +1 and I looked everywhere for the answer to that that meant. I was thinking so 5? why not just say 5! lol. Thanks for all your help.
