Help Please Reading Pattern

Hi ~

I’m working on my first sweater and have just a few questions

The sleeve pattern reads as follows:

Cast on 30 stitches, inc 1 st each side every 4th row 8 times, every 6th row 7 times for a total of 60 stitches.

Does this mean that I do the inc on the 4th rows first and then after that is done 8 times then I inc on the 6th row 7 times…or do I do an inc on the 4th row, one on the 6th row and then again one on the 8th row etc?

The pattern is seaside savvy from Family Circle Easy Sweaters pg 56.

Also, when blocking your pieces…assuming that I will do a steam block, what do you pin your pieces to? The book says a solid surface…but my ironing board isn’t wide enough.

Thanks in advance for your help… I’m very grateful for this site and all the knowledge that exists here !!

It means you increase at either side on rows 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, then rows 38, 44, 50, 56, 62, 68, 74.

Double check your gauge for how many rows you’re getting to an inch.
Multiply that number times 74 and you’ll know in advance approximately how long that sleeve will turn out.

Thanks Lana…what I needed to know
