Help please, pattern decreases two but only increases one

Hi
Can someone help me with this please? Hope I’m in the right place.

My pattern is simple , based on groups of 5 stitiches

  1. p2,k3
    then comes the pattern bit
  2. p2, s1, k2tog, psso (I know how to do this, I looked at You Tube vids.) (reduces by 2)
    then
  3. p2, k1, yo, k1

then some repeats of the first line.

I have knitted it all and undone it as can’t figure out how I Yarn over is enough, The 5 are not recreated and each of these rows reduces by one stitch and is not supposed to.

The pattern clearly shows all the purls should stay the same.

Hope someone can enlighten me
Cheers

A link to the pattern would help. What are you making?

Found the link:

Its a neckwarmer

Wrap Cable Pattern

Row 1 *P2, sl1, k2, psso; rep from * to end.
Row 2 *P2, k1, yo, k1; rep from * to end.
Row 3-5 *P2, k3; rep from * to end.
Rep rows 1-5

Now, if I typed it in correctly…You have the sl1, k1, psso dec in row 1 which leaves you with 1 stitch less. In row 2 you have a yo but no dec. HTH

That’s really pretty.

It is pretty. or will be
So… this is the bit that I am not understanding :
" which leaves you with 1 stitch less"
Once the two are knitted together to become one I am pulling the slipped one over them and that is the only one left, decreasing by two. It’s how all the videos I have watched seem to do it…how to only decrease one?
Can you point me to an example?

Each repeat on row 1 will leave 4 sts on the right needle.
On row 2 you have a yo that will bring the count back to 5.

Yes, your sl 1, k2tog, psso goes from 3 sts on the left needle to 1 st on the right needle. The yo will count as 1 st on the right needle. Each repeat goes from 5 sts to 4 sts. Your net decrease for the repeat is 1.

On row 3 you don’t decrease and have 1 yo so your count is back to 5.

It takes both rows to get your count back to 5 per repeat.

Trust the pattern. I don’t see anything on Ravelry about errors so I think your fine.

I followed the pattern and knitted the garment up in the first instance, however it decreased to such an extent that the neck part wouldn’t go over my head.

the picture doens’t give the appearance of decreased diameter on the pattern part.

It doesn’t make sense to me. thanks for you help both tho.

“On row 3 you don’t decrease and have 1 yo so your count is back to 5.”

But:
Row 3-5 on the pattern are just P2, K3.

I think I’ll have to ask someone in person. just too hard in writing. thanks anyway. I really appreciate your help

then some repeats of the first line.

Are you only working row 1 over and over again?

Rep rows 1-5

  • from the pattern
There are 5 pattern rows. The increases and double decrease balance out over 2 rows. You have to work the entire 5 rows and then repeat.

Row 2 *P2, k1, yo, k1; rep from * to end.

Welcome to KnittingHelp!
The problem is in interpreting row 1. It’s not a double decrease. It’s a single decrease. The instructions are to slip one, knit 2 then pass sliped stitch over the 2 knit sts. No k2tog.

Row 1 *P2, sl1, k2, psso; rep from * to end.
Row 2 *P2, k1, yo, k1; rep from * to end.

Do I feel stupid? Yeah, I really do.
