Help picking out yarn

I like a cotton yarn for my sweater I’m going to knit(my first). The yarn had very good review except for one. She said that she loved the yarn but when she wore the garment it grew bigger and bigger. My question: is there something I need to know about knitting with cotton to prevent this problem could it be caused by using wrong needles or style of knitting?

Hi & welcome to KH. What yarn do you have? Cotton behaves differently from other fibers and there will be some stretch with wear. I find that washing it and throwing it in the dryer is the best way to get it back into shape. A cotton blend will probably hold its shape and size better than 100% cotton.

Thank you for the swift answer. I’m planning on getting Knit pick’s shine sport yarn.

Welcome!
Shine works well in patterns. It may help if you can avoid lots of cables and other stitch patterns that use a lot of yarn and add to the weight of the sweater. That said, I do have an old sweater which has all over cables with lace between the cables (knit in Cotton Club) which has maintained its shape over the years.
