Help on pattern

Hi

Can someone help me with this…

Special instructions
O2 is used as the basis for one stitch, with one wrap dropped on following row.

The pattern begins with a multiple of 20 plus 19 stitches. (minumum 39 stitches) and ends with a multiple of 21 plus 19 stitches. All repeats are worked on a multiple of 21 plus 19 stitches. The number of stitches per row varies.

The bracketed instructions should be repeated once for each 20 stitches added. They are not repeated when the pattern is worked on minimum number of stitches.

The sample is worked on 41 stitches : 1 repeat plus 19 stitches, plus 1 stitch on each side for a garter-stitch border. Note that the border stitches are not included in the row instructions.

Row 1 : (P2, K13, K2tog, P2, O2, K1, 02), -.
Row 2 : (K2, P14, K2, P3), -.

my question is how many stitches to cast on for 3 sets of repeat pattern including the garter-stitch border which is 2 stitches…

i try to figure the whole nite but can’t get it :hair:

your help would be appreciated…thanks

Well, if it’s a multiple of 20 plus 19 stitches and you want to do three repeats, then it’s 20x3 + 19. So that would be 79 stitches, plus one on each side for the garter stitch border (not included in the row instructions) for a total of 81 stitches.

I think you want 61 stitches.

Didnt read it right is the border two stitches on each side then it would be 83.

The pattern begins with a multiple of 20 plus 19 stitches. (minumum 39 stitches) and ends with a multiple of 21 plus 19 stitches. All repeats are worked on a multiple of 21 plus 19 stitches. The number of stitches per row varies.

but then what does it means in bold ???

Row 1 : (P2, K13, K2tog, P2, O2, K1, 02), -.

When i knit row 1

it shld start with p2, k13, k2tog, p2, O2, k1, O2 then continue with - till the end of row…i knit the O2, k1, 02 only once on the entire row ???

This seems like a really confusing pattern :?? There are stitch patterns that start off with a certain multiple of stitches and end with a different multiple. That part is okay as long as you start off with the right number to begin with. The matter of what is to be repeated here is the confusing part.

Okay, I think that you repeat ALL of what’s inside the brackets once for each 20 stitches you cast on at the beginning. You are wanting 3 repeats so you would do the bracketed part 3 times total. Then for the +19 part you will do just what’s inside the -, once at the end. That would add up as far as the stitch count goes, and I’m assuming that the O2 means 2 yarn overs in a row.

O2 is used as the basis for one stitch, with one wrap dropped on following row.

DOes it means that you O2 on the row 1 then on row 2 …you drop one of them ???

Well, that’s what it says to do. Is O2 two yarn overs in a row? Does the pattern state what the abbreviation means?

yes O2 means yarn over twice…

this pattern is from knitting counterpanes…lyre pattern…i cast on and still din come out right…i wonder there is an error in pattern writing ???

Well, if I’m reading this pattern correctly, and you are casting on 81 stitches TOTAL for 3 repeats plus 19 stitches, plus 1 stitch each edge for border, it should work out. The pattern states that you repeat everything within the brackets for each repeat, and then it appears that the 19 stitches are what’s between the -:

Row 1 : (P2, K13, K2tog, P2, O2, K1, 02), -.
Row 2 : (K2, P14, K2, P3), -.

So this is how I think it would go…

(P2, K13, K2tog, P2, O2, K1, O2) repeat 3 times, then P2, K13, K2tog, P2

Each bracket uses 20 stitches, so row 1 should work out perfectly:
P2=2
K13=13
K2tog=2
P2=2
O2=uses none of the original stitches
K1=1
O2=uses none of the original stitches

So then for row 2, same thing…

(K2, P14, K2, P3) repeat 3 times, then K2, P14, K2

The important thing with row 2 is that when you come to those O2 from the previous row that you drop one of the wraps off the needle.

ok… :out: will try it out…thanks
