HELP on knitting in the round

Hi how to convert knitting in the round on this pattern below ??? i tried many times without success… :wall: :wall:

Bramble stitch

Muiltiple of 4 + 2 stitches

(RS) R1 - Purl
(WS) R2 - K1, *(K1, P1, K1) into next st, P3tog; rep from * to last st, K1
R3 - Purl
R4 - K1, *p3tog, (K1, P1, K1) into next st, rep from * to last st, K1.

Rep these last rows…

STAR Stitch

Multiple of 4 + 1

R1 - Knit
R2 - P1, *MS, P1 rep from * to end
R3 - Knit
R4 - P3, MS, *P1, MS; rep from * to last 3 sts, P3

On rows 1 and 3 of the first pattern, knit. On 1 and 3 of the second pattern, purl. They might turn out a sort of mirror image of the flat pattern, but I don’t think that’s going to affect how it looks.

I remember reading an article that knitting in the round have no edge stitch…hmm will the pattern turned out to be on the ws on the needle???

Oops forgot about edge stitches. So you’d work with 2 less on the first pattern:

R 2 -*(K1, P1, K1) into next st, P3tog; rep around.
R4 - *p3tog, (K1, P1, K1) into next st, rep around.

And 1 less on the second:

R2 - *MS, P1 rep around
R4 - P2, MS, *P1, MS; rep from * to last 3 sts, P3

It won’t be on the wrong side, Row 1 is the right side.

Yes, you have to remember that when you knit in the round you are always on the right side AND you are working every row (round) from right to left. When knitting flat, the wrong side rows are worked left to right (if you were reading it from a chart, for example). So when converting to knitting in the round you not only have to knit where it says purl and purl when it says knit, every other row, you also have to rewrite the instructions so that it also goes in the reverse order, just like suzeeq has written out for you.

I didn’t reverse the pattern stitch rows (2 & 4), I just left off the extra stitches. I think it’ll still work out okay.

This is the original pattern for flat knitting

R4 - K1, *p3tog, (K1, P1, K1) into next st, rep from * to last st, K1.

after converting …is these pattern correct ?? and how many stitch to cast on then ???
thank you

hi Sue,
the bold highlighted should read 2 sts, p2 ??? :??

I don’t think so, I dropped the extra stitch at the beginning of the pattern repeat.

sue

thanks …does that mean i cast on just multiple of 4 sts for both pattern ??

I thought so, but the pattern repeats are 6 sts in Bramble, Star stitch looks like a 2 stitch repeat. :?? So I’m not sure. Does MS mean Make Stitch? If it does, I don’t see a corresponding dec stitch, so that would make the stitch count increase. :??

sue

I’ve seen this recently. MS means make star. Let me try to find a link…

ETA: Darn. Haven’t found a link yet. I’m can’t remember where I saw this, but it was very recent… it may take me a little while, but I will find it. Just want you know I’m still working on it…

:cheering: I found it! Here’s the star pattern that explains how to make the star.

let me check

MS - P3tog, leaving the sts on the left hand needle , wrap the yrn around the needle then p the same 3 sts again …does that make sense ?

I think for both is 4 sts repeat…cos bramble delete the 2 edge sts remember ??

and star is 4 sts too…i will try this out and let you know how it turn out
