Help on a Garnstudio pattern please?

I am making this sweater (attached - a Drops Garnstudio pattern) it was going along well, then I got stuck on a paragraph on page 2 near bottom, where it starts:
“Continue in garter st over the remaining 10-10-12-12-14-14 st as follows: * 1 ridge in garter st over all sts, 1 ridge over…”

-> do they mean I should only be working on the collar stitches at this point? (the rest is stockinette stitch) - I have on the needle now:
12 garter stitches (this is the collar) and 8 stockinette stitches (I just cast off 24 shoulder stitches per paragraph above but they don’t talk about the stitches that are not garter…I am lost!

and it says “until collar measures 2 1/2” - 2 1/2" - 3" etc…in the shorter side from the shoulder" what does that mean??

Any help would be FANTASTIC…!! Thanks All!! :muah:

Is this the section you need help with? You should remove your attachment and just copy a few lines of the pattern. Copyright issues.

Continue in garter st over the remaining 10-10-12-12-14-14 sts as follows: * 1 ridge in garter st over all sts, 1 ridge over only the outermost 7-7-9-9-11-11 sts *, repeat from - until collar measures 2½"-2½"-3"-3"-3½"-3½" in the shorter side from the shoulder. Slip the sts on 1 stitch holder.

I think I can figure it out but will leave it to someone else, I’d hate to steer you wrong.

Whoops, this is the first time I’ve ever posted - thank you for advice on not adding the pattern - I can’t figure out how to remove it…
Yes I have highlited below where I am stuck:

“When piece measures 30”-31"-32½"-33½"-34½"-35½", bind off 20-21-22-24-26-28 shoulder sts from RS and work the rest of row.
Slip the sts on 1 stitch holder."

Thank you GG - and you are not Grumpy at all!

Hi and welcome to KH!
Yes, it sounds like you should be working on only the collars sts for this part. You should work one ridge in garter (2 rows) over all sts and then another ridge in garter over some of the sts. Then continue alternating working over all sts for a ridge, working over some of the sts for a ridge until the given length. That will give you an asymmetric collar with a shorter and a longer side. Measure the length from the shorter side.
Can you post a link to the pattern or the pattern name please? That would hellp with figuring out what to do with the extra stockinette sts.

Great - here is the link: http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/us/search.php

Thanks very much !!

I couldn’t get the link to work.
Maybe this one?

If so, it seems that you should have 36sts for the 4th size. If you cast off 24sts, that’ll leave you with 12 sts for the collar. There shouldn’t be any other sts in stockinette on the needles.
It’s a very nice looking jacket.

Oh boy I am bad at this! :chair:

Its called “Frost Flower Cardigan” - thanks for sticking with me and trying to help! I’m certainly not making it easy for you!!

I started by casting on 40 (36 stock. stitches, 4 garter for collar).
Then decr 1 st in stock st 5x = 35 total st (31 stock, 4 garter).
At same time (when measures 22.5") I started adding 8 garter st in the collar per below, resulting in 43 total st (31 stock, 12 garter):

“AT THE SAME when piece measures 20’’-21’’-21 5/8’’-22½’’-23¼’’-23 5/8’’, work 1 more st in garter st (= left side) every 1½”-1½"-1 1/8"-1 1/8"-7/8"-7/8" 6-6-8-8-10-10 times in total. NOTE: No sts are inc, only sts in stockinette st are worked in garter st = 10-10-12-12-14-14 sts in garter st."

When piece measured 25.5: i cast on 1 = 44 total st (32 stock + 12 garter). I then cast off the 24 which left me with 8 stock + 12 garter…

What did I do wrong?

As long as we get to the right place, it’s all ok.
The problem happened when you added the sts for the collar. Instead of adding to the total, you should just change one more stitch from stockinette to garter every so many inches. That’s what the note is saying.
“NOTE: No sts are inc, only sts in stockinette st are worked in garter st = 10-10-12-12-14-14 sts in garter st.”

So you have the total of 35sts and you add one more for 36sts. Then the cast off of 24sts leaves you with 12sts for the collar.

Wow you are brilliant, thank you!! (rip, rip rip it out!
One more question: the next instruction reads below, what do they mean when they say “in the shorter side from the shoulder”?

Continue in garter st over the remaining 10-10-12-12-14-14 sts as follows: * 1 ridge in garter st over all sts, 1 ridge over only the outermost 7-7-9-9-11-11 sts *, repeat from - until collar measures 2½"-2½"-3"-3"-3½"-3½" in the shorter side from the shoulder. Slip the sts on 1 stitch holder.

This post halped answer the question on the collar. Knit one garter ridge (2rows) over all sts then knit the number of sts for your size (9sts?), turn leaving some sts unknit on the left needle. Knit back over the sts just knit. It’s a short row. That’ll be one garter ridge (2 rows). Alternate a ridge over all sts, a short row ridge until the given length. One side of the collar will end up shorter than the other because it’ll have fewer rows.

This makes sense! I would not have figured that out. THANK YOU for working through this with me!! The kindness of strangers…:muah:

Can’t tell you how much I appreciate it!!
