Help! Norwegian sweater/cutting stitches

Can anyone help me interpret this pattern? I’ve never cut knitting before and having difficulty figuring out what I am supposed to do.

The pattern is for a cardigan on round needles. You start by working a rib back and forth and then it says

“Change to circular needle 3 mm and in colour 1001, at the same time cast off 5 new sts, which are cutting sts and are not incl in diagram and no of sts given”

My understanding is that you knit the cardigan in the round and then cut it open when it’s done. I don’t understand “cast off 5 new sts”. Is it possible that they mean cast on?

Without having seen the pattern I would assume your interpretation, that you should cast on 5 stitches.

Thanks! The more I look at the pattern the more I think that’s the only interpretation. Don’t want to get it wrong and only realise at the end :stuck_out_tongue:
