Hi, I am making the Top Down Seamless Baby Jerkin that I found on the patterns page of your website. I am having difficulty understanding row 22. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Is it casting on in the middle of the row or picking up the extra stitch or something else about the pattern row?

PU 1 st (pick up and knit) in the first bound of st, cast on 5 sts.
Do I pick up just 1 stitch and then cast on 5 stitches?

Yes, just one stitch picked up from the end stitch of the bind off, then cast on 5 more sts. I haven’t seen this trick but it may avoid the gap between bind off and cast on sts. I’ll have to try it next time.
