Help needed with pattern!

Hi everyone,
I’m attempting to knit a sweater. I’ve never done this before so I need a bit of help understanding the pattern. What does it mean when the pattern says “binding off 3 sts. at each and once on 1st row for armholes = 54(58 ) sts.” I’ve thought about this and thought about this but I just don’t get it :frowning:

Here’s the sweater / pattern I am attempting http://www.elann.com/ShowFreePattern.asp?Id=47024

Any and all help will be GRATELY appreciated!!!

Thank you,
Lazy_Susan

Boy, that sounds like a typo if I every heard one.

Bind off 3 stitches at the beginning of the next two rows for the armholes. You’ll have 54(58) stitches left.

I’m sorry but I still don’t understand. I only bind of for the first 2 rows and then continue until it’s finished?
I don’t mean to sound dumb but I am so new to this

binding off 3 sts. at each end once on 1st row for armholes = 54(58) sts.

Yes, when you make an armhole, you bind off under the arm, as your pattern has you doing, and then work up to the shoulder. Some patterns have you shape the armhole as you go, but this one doesn’t–makes it simpler, that way, too.

Thank you soooooo much!!! I understand now

I need help again please
The next part of the pattern says to "bind off for shoulders at each end of every 2nd row 6 sts. 3 times (6 sts. once and 7 sts. twice). " I don’t understand where the “7 sts. twice” comes from if I am supposed to only “bind off for shoulders at each end of every 2nd row 6 sts. 3 times

Thanks,
Lazy_Susan

The numbers in the parentheses are probably only for the larger size.
