HELP! need to wrap and turn in purl and I am totally lost

Okay, I am a beginner - extreme beginner. I am giving this http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring07/PATTmickey.html a go and all is well and fine except for the instruction: Row 2 – Purl (S) w&t Knit to end

I’ve got the purl done, but I can’t figure out the w&t - I’ve already watched the video in Advanced Techniques half a dozen times, but it looked like she was coming from a knit stitch into the wrap/turn and as I am coming from purl I have no clue what to do. No other written instructions I dug up were of any assistance.

If anyone can explain, please help!

I’m sure the video has a purl wrap and turn… that’s where I learnt how to do it, by following Amy step by step. I’m gonna go have another look then see if i get time to put it in words, cause my brain isn’t working enough to get it down for you - been a long day!

Ok… you have purled a number of stitches, and your yarn is in front as if to purl. You then turn your work to the knit side and your yarn will be in back as if to knit, you then slip the next stitch, bring the yarn around that stitch to the front as if to purl, slip it back, then bring the yarn back into knit position (you have wrapped the stitch), you then knit back along to your next wrap point… Does that help at all?

Part of my confusion comes from not seeing another wrap point… this instruction only comes every 6 rows in the pattern, just once in that row…

I think I understand everything up until slipping it back… and then, if I am even coming close to making sense of this, rather than knitting back to my next wrap point (since there isn’t one), I just knit to the end of the row and move on to the next step?

(BTW, thank you very much for taking the time to help me out :notworthy: - I know I am jumping in a bit over my head but I figure that’t the best way to learn. :happydance: )

Yea, if there isn’t another wrap to be done, then I would wrap it, then knit all the way to the end and continue on with the next set of instructions. You bet it’s the best way to learn, and if you have any more probs or it isn’t working out, just ask away

Thank you so much - I will give it another go round and see how it goes :D.

I don’t envy you here. I’ve just about got this stitch sorted thanks to the videos on here. I was quite literally knitting in front of the computer while the video was playing! The video was so helpful, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without.

I’ve been doing the same thing lol - running the videos when I need to learn something and sitting here with my needles lol.

I can’t imagine trying to learn this on my own without the internet!

I had the same problem try this http://nonaknits.typepad.com/nonaknits/2005/04/wrapped_stitch_.html

TFS

I actually did finally figure it out this morning - it was a lot simpler than it looked lol.
