Help! Need help understanding pattern!

I am working on a Debbie Bliss Teddy Bear All-In-One Pattern. This is my first “true” pattern that I am working on and I need some help clarifying some of the instructions.

It says:
“Be with a k row work in a st st.
Inc one st at each end of the 1st and every foll alt row until there at 86 sts.”

Does this mean: at the beginning of my row, starting with knit side, I work a stocking stitch to the end of the row. At the end, I will then increase one stitch. I continue on the other side with a purl row. Then start again with my knit row and at the end of the knit row, I increase one stitch. So basically, I increase a stitch at the end of each knit row and not a purl row, until I get 86 stitches total.

Am I interpreting this right? Help!

Any and all input is definitely welcome.:woot:

Thanks! “moomerknit.”

You’re right except it’s at EACH END of the knit rows. You’ll inc 1 at the beginning of the row, and inc 1 at the end, for a total of 2 sts on each knit row.

You inc a st at each end of the knit rows until you have 86 sts.

BTW, if that’s what the pattern says, it’s not very well written. Don’t feel bad about being confused by it.

It’s increase one stitch at each end of the knit row! I have this pattern book and have made Teddy All In One several times. If you need any more help, let me know and I will try to help as best as I can!

If either of you can help I would really appreciate it.

In the “Main Part” section I’m supposed to “Cont straight until work measures 32 cm from cast on edges”

Which cast on edges? The bottom of the leg, or the cast-on increases somewhere along the leg. I have a feeling it’s the bottom of the leg, because I’ve tried the other way and I think I’ve used far too much wool up for this point in the pattern.

Any advise before I start ripping out rows would be greatly appreciated. THANKS THANKS THANKS- Allison

The actual cast on at the beginning of the pattern; 32 cm would be about 12".
