I am doing the picky pattern from little turtle knits. I have made several longies and I don’t understand what I am doing wrong. Every single time I have big gaping holes from the leg to the gussett. I think I am following the directions correctly but they are still there. What am i doing wrong? also when starting on a leg the pattern says to cast on 2 stitches. How does one do this in the middle of a row? Do I cut the yarn cast on and rejoin the yarn? Can I just kfb 2 x? HELP!!!
I am not familiar with this pattern. Can you quote the part that is giving you trouble (not the whole pattern), or a link or something so we can see what is going on.
To cast on 2 stitches in the middle of a row I think I would use a backward loop cast on. There is a how to in the video section I think with the cast ons, maybe with increases too. You don’t need to cut the yarn to add the stitches. If you don’t like the backward loop you could use a knitted on cast on or a cable cast on. (in cast on videos)
It’s hard to say what you are doing wrong since we can’t see the pattern. It’s copyrighted so you can post just the confusing part to help us out.
To cast on in the middle you can usually just use backward loop cast on. Or you can use the cable cast on which is a little tighter.
It’s not uncommon to have a gap in situations like this. If you have started a new skein of yarn there you can use the tail to close it up.
Cast on 2 sts is different than Increase 2 sts. As the others said, you need to use a loop or knitted cast on. A gap between sections sometimes happens; you can take a piece of yarn, or the tail yarn and sew it closed.
