I finished two of these Yarn Harlot scarves, and am 3 inches into a third. I cannot stop!..love the simple pattern, which allows me to watch TV while knitting, talk with friends while knitting…I am also enjoying trying it out with different yarn thicknesses. The newest one is very light, on smaller needles.
The pattern is on 26 stitches, and is a 4-stitch repeat of knit 3, purl 1, except that the 3rd stitch is knit into the back of stitch.
so it’s k2, k1b, p1. Simple and lovely. Lies flat without curling.
but I’m curious: is there another pattern I can try? Getting a bit boring…
I love this scarf pattern! BUT I’d like to make it into a lap blanket instead of a scarf. (about 70-75 sts cast on) Would you be able to tell me how many stitches I should cast on at the beginning??
I read that the original # for the scarf is 26, but that’s not a multiple of 4, so I’m confused about how many I should cast on.
It looks like the CO would be multiple of 4 +2 sts. (4x6 +2=26). So your cast on can be 74 or 78. That’s only 3 times the width of the scarf, though, will that be enough?
Suzeeq I want to try the scrunchable scarf! Sorry to ask a stupid question, but the pattern says cast on a multiple of 3 plus one on each edge for selvage. Do you begin the k2 p1 pattern with that first selvage stich? Or do you knit that one, then begin k2 p1 with the second stich.
I do so enjoy trying it in different colors, thicknesses, styles of yarn…etc. There may be no end to this for awhile yet. So easy to carry along anywhere. (unlike the baby blanket I’m also making on 7mm circulars…now THAT takes up a lot of space).
as for making a blanket with this pattern:
You will use number of stitches = ex times 4, (ex should represent the number of repeats of the pattern you would like. To find out, I do a test swatch, like so: cast on and knit 4 (or 8) stitches in the pattern, measure its width, then decide how many groups of four would make a nice blanket size) then add 2 stitches. this way each side will have an identical border.
