Help! knitting sweater sleeve--loose stitches

I’ve experienced this problem before, but now that I’m knitting a sweater sleeve, I really can’t ignore it anymore. Is there any way to avoid the following:

as I’m knitting with double pointed needles, the row corresponding to the first stitch on each needle is looser than any others going all the way down the sleeve. does anyone have any tips? I’ve tried knitting that stitch more tightly, but it that doesn’t seem to work.

When you’re knitting in the round, you’re really knitting in a spiral and that first stitch will leave a jog since it’s going above the row below.

There is a method called jogless jog that supposed to help this. Jogless jog.

It’s mainly used to line up stripes.

I leave the one-color jog on my knitting. It’s kind of like a seam line, and personally, having to fiddle every row just isn’t worth it.

Do you mean color jogs? Or do you mean “laddering” at the intersection between two DPNs?

If it’s laddering, you can

  • try to consciously pull the first and last couple of stitches on each needle tighter, or

  • after completing a DPN, work the first few stitches from the next DPN on the same needle, then transfer those stitches off to the working needle and continue, or

  • use stitch markers for where the pattern thinks the DPNs start/stop and always knit a few stitches from the next DPN before changing working needles so that the intersection is constantly moving, This way, a ladder can’t develop.
