I have been trying and always get so confused!!! I want to knit a scarf and adding a picture in the middle from a chart. (the chart with the blocks on it lol that tell you where to change color etc.)
But, when I switch from the WS to the RS, somehow I mess up…somehow I get the 2 colors messed up and end up with a hole in the middle. Is there a video on this or can someone please help me!? I am trying to make a xmas gift for a friend. I looked at the intarsia method and it just doesn’t seem to be the same.
HELP! LOL :wall:
It does sound like intarsia. When you switch colors, hold the yarn you’re stopping over to the left, so it lays on top of the color that you’re about to use. Then bring your new color up to knit/purl so it comes up from under the old color. They will automatically twist this way to avoid holes.
I think that might help…its more so when I switch from the WS to the RS and vice versa…I am knitting garter stitch but now my yarn is in the front. I have been getting very confused.
Any further help will help me.
It is actually a grid…a picture that is to be knitted in the center of a project.
Thanks!!!
The problem may be that you’re knitting in garter. Most intarsia projects are knitted in stockinette. This way all the colors on the right side are knit–no double-colored purl stitches except on the back, and all the color changes would be on the back.
Intarsia patterns are always presented in a grid–I couldn’t possibly imagine a color pattern written out.
OMG! Thank you! That is the problem…garter stitch! OK…I will try again tomw lol.
Thanks again!!!
When you are working from a chart you read the RS rows right to left but the WS rows are read left to right. Have you been doing that or reading them both in the same direction?
