Help - knit in back of 2nd stitch, knit 1st stitch

Hi,

I’m working a pattern that creates a diamond shape by doing ‘knit in front of 2nd stitch, knit 1st stitch’ for the right side of the diamond and ‘knit in back of 2nd stitch, knit 1st stitch’ for the left side of the diamond. The right side of the diamond looks great, but the left side of the diamond looks awful, the stitches look really loose…I’m not really sure what I’m doing wrong. I’ve looked at videos and diagrams for knitting in back, and it seems like I’m doing it correctly, so I’m thinking I’m doing something wrong with the combination of knitting in back of 2nd, knitting 1st. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

I think what may be happening here is that the instructions for the left side should more clearly specify that you are knitting the 2nd stitch by slipping the needle behind the first stitch then knitting into the second stitch – not that you are knitting into the back of the second stitch. You are really making a little 1x1 cable from what I can tell, and for the left side stitches you want the 1st stitch to pass in front of the 2nd stitch.
