Help interpreting pattern

Hi All,
Came across this lovely pattern for a cabled scarf from Patons, but can’t for the life of me interpret the pattern…I am pretty new to knitting and got the hang of cabling, but not this! You are supposed to cast on 48 stitches, which is fine, but this is the first row of the pattern:
(RS). K1. KB1. P2. *KB1. (P2. K1.P1. K1) twice. P2. Rep from * twice more. KB1. P2. KB1. K1.

I think i understand how to do the KB1, but I can’t seem to get 48 stitches out of the row…could someone write these instructions out in english? Thanks so much, Joanna

KB1? Is that supposed to be k1b? I’ve never seen it written that way…just want to clarify.

Do you have a link to the pattern? There are a lot of patterns so it helps if you share a link when asking questions.

OK…here goes
K1, KB1, P2
KB1, (P2, K1, P1, K1), (P2, K1, P1, K1), P2
KB1, (P2, K1, P1, K1), (P2, K1, P1, K1), P2
KB1, (P2, K1, P1, K1), (P2, K1, P1, K1), P2
KB1, P2, KB1, K1
This all adds up to 48.

Wow, what a speedy response! I was worried I was going to have to wait till next weekend to go back to the local knitting store! :muah: That makes more sense! I’ve included a link to the pattern, in case anyone wants it! Thanks, Joanna
