Help in understanding pattern

 Hello, I’m what you call a beginning knitter. I’m working on a hat and a little confused by the pattern instructions. This may seem like a silly question, but I want to make sure the hat comes out right…it’s a gift for someone. This is the beginning of the pattern:

1st row: (RS) K2. *P2.K2. Rep from *to end of row.
2nd row: *P2.K2. Rep from *to last 2 sts. P2.
Rep last 2 rows until work from beg measures 11 ins ending on a 2nd row.

Can someone please explain to me what this mean?

Thanks

Hi. Welcome to KH. Your question doesn’t seem silly, it sounds like a beginner’s question. There are a couple of videos here for k2, p2 ribbing which is what you’re doing.

Ribbing-English

At the top of the page is a button for Videos. You’ll find lots of helpful stuff there in addition to asking here. Enjoy your hat and if you want to post a photo, we’d love to see it.

Hello GrumpyGramma,
Thank you so much for the advice and the welcome. Looking forward to hanging out with all the wonderful knitters and hoping to learn a lot. :cheering:
