Help in Shaping the Neck of a Sweater

My very first KnittingHelp post!

Here are my instructions for shaping the neck of a sweater:

Bind of center 10 sts, work to end. (That part I get)

Working both sides at once, bind of 4 sts at each neck edge once, 3 sts once, 2 sts once, then dec 1 st at each neck edge once.

This is where I’m stumped. When I bind off 4 sts at one side of neck edge, how do I also bind off 4 sts at the other side of the neck edge on the same row? This is not working out for me.

Please help! (Also, how do you get these avatars to work???)

Hi and welcome to KH When you turn your work to do the purl side you have to attach another ball of yarn to the stitches on the other side of the bind off stitches. You drop the original yarn and pick up the new yarn, purl across , turn and k, drop yarn, pick up yarn on the other side of bo etc.Hope this helps.
