Help in need of help understanding increases on Rowan pattern

Hi, I am so frustrated. I have started these sleeves twice already and feel I need to start again still! These are the instructions - I need row by row advice I think as each time the sleeve gets to the stipulated length far sooner than I’ve finished the increasing instructions -

Beg with a K row, cont in st st, shaping sides by inc 1 st at each end of next and every foll alt [4th: 4th: 4th] row to
35 [49: 51: 49] sts, then on every foll 4th [6th: 6th: 6th] row
until there are 49 [51: 55: 57] sts.
Cont straight until sleeve meas 15 [16: 19: 22] cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

What exactly is every foll alt 4th row. Surely that’s every 8th row which is what I have been doing

Welcome to the forum!
These instructions can be confusing and these in particular are a bit tricky. There are 4 different sizes so the initial increase is every alt row for size 1, every 4th for sizes 2,3 and 4. (So “alt” only applies to the first size not to the other sizes.)
If you call the next row, row 1 then the increases are at each end of rows 5,9,13,17,21,25,29,33 and so on until you reach the given stitch number.
