I am working on a bookmark pattern for beginners. I can’t figure out the instructions in a book that I have so I’m using this website with the pattern instead. I’ve come to understand the long tail cast on, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to switch from the end of that to start either the continental or english knit stitches. Can anyone help me understand it better?
Help! I'm a new knitter and can't seem to get started
:happydance: Welcome to KH!!:happydance:
Have you checked out Amy’s video of the Cast on?When you get ready to start your knitting…the Cast on needle should be in your left hand…with the working yarn at the end of the working tip… you then will use your right needle to begin knitting… I would prolly check out Amy’s cast on videos and then move to her Knit videos…check out both English and Contiental and see which you want to try first…after you get the knit stitch down…then move on to the purl stitch… and then I’d try the book mark …welcome to the addicting world of knitting!!
i have the cast on pretty much down. and i’ve been watching the knitting video over and over again trying to figure out how i’m supposed to start straight from the cast on. whenever i try, it just falls apart…
Ahhh, you’re probably inserting your needle between the 1st and 2nd stitch instead of into the 1 stitch. Try that.
Look here http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/knitting-tips for Demo of a small project that takes you from CO to bind off with a few rows in between.
That’s what I was going to suggest - the video of a small project helped me immensely when I first began knitting … HTH!
