Help I need help with a pattern

I am trying to knit a baby afghan but have ended up with too many stitches which I think must be due to the yarn overs. The pattern reads:

Pattern stitch - (multiple of 4 + 2)

Row 1 (RS): P2, *K1, yo, k1, p2. rep from * across

Row 2: K2, *p3, k2 rep from * across

Row 3: P2, *slip 1, k2, psso, p2, rep from * across

Row 4: K2, *p2, k2, rep from * across

These four rows constitute the pattern and there’s no instruction to k2 tog which would prevent extra stitches forming.

Could somebody please advise.

"Pattern stitch - (multiple of 4 + 2)

Row 1 (RS): P2, *K1, yo, k1, p2. rep from * across

Row 2: K2, *p3, k2 rep from * across

Row 3: P2, *slip 1, k2, psso, p2, rep from * across

Row 4: K2, *p2, k2, rep from * across"

Actually, if you look in row 3 there is a slip 1, k2, pass slip stitch over which will decrease a stitch. Here, the slipped stitch is passed over the 2 knit stitches and off the needle. So although there will be an increased number of sts after row 1, by the time you finish row 3 you should be back to the cast on number.

Row 3 uses decreases - sl 1, k2, psso will dec one stitch per repeat which will offset the YOs on row 1.
