I am trying to knit a scarf from an old magazine that I had, its called backyard leaves and the pattern is by Annie Modesitt. the magazine it is in is interweave knits holiday gifts special edition 2006. the question is: how do you K1, P1 in same stitch on both RS and WS? and then their is another one just like it that is the P first then the K and the rest is the same. I have taken it apart many times I just can’t get this one and I can’t find its symbol at all anywhere or the words i really need some ones help please come to my rescue…
Thanks,
Laurie:shrug:
K1, p1 in the same stitch is something like knit front and back, only you’d purl the second stitch. Knit 1, leave the stitch on the needle, bring the yarn to the front and purl through the back leg of the same stitch. For the p1, k1, do the same - purl into the stitch, leave on needle and bring the yarn to the back to knit into the back leg of the stitch.
Sue, Thank you very much, but what does it mean on both RS and WS? I know that RS is right side and WS is wrong side at the end of the instructions? Their is an asterisk at the end of the K1, P1 in same st on both RS and WS* then I look at the discloser and the *says Do not twist the base of the parent stitch. That made me think that I had to turn my work and do it on the WS of my work? I am proberly making this harder then it is…I don’t like to be a pain. Thank you SO very much.
Laurie
Without looking at the pattern, I would think it means do this on both the RS and WS rows when you come to it. You don’t, as far as I know, do it on the RS, then turn and also do it in the same st on the WS. Not twisting the base of the parent st doesn’t mean anything except just be sure that when you do the increases, the st you kp into doesn’t get twisted. You’re putting too much importance on RS/WS, it’s just there for information that you do k1p1, and also the p1k1, in one st where designated just that way on both rows where ever they appear in the pattern.
Thank you so much. If I ever finish it I will post a pic.
