Help, I can't get the hang of seaming!

Hello Everyone,

I finished my first garment ever and I can’t seam to get how to do the mattress stitch. I looked in the help section and watched the video but for some reason I don’t understand. Does anybody have any tips on seaming or any easier way than the matress stitch?

I came across this other link describing and picturing seaming techniques yesterday. Maybe it will help you out some.

This article from Knitty has some good photos and description of mattress stitch.

Here’s a couple more if you need more visuals. It usually helps me to have several different views of the same thing.

The Knitting Experience: The Knit Stitch and the second book The Purl Stitch by Sally Melville helped me more than anything else. Great pictures and step by step directions. You might be able to find them in your library, that’s where I discovered them. Good luck!

Thanks for all the info it was very helpful. It is a pain to seam isn’t it? I went to my lys and they told me to backstitch the seams and I do not like that at all!! It looks really sloppy. :frowning:

Persevere with the mattress–it makes all the difference.
