HELP! How to fix a stairwell effect on a baby blanket without starting over

I need some help! This is my first time knitting and I’m self-taught. I realized that I was adding an extra stitch with each new row when I started the second color block of a beginner baby blanket pattern. I remedied it and am no longer adding stitches. I created a stairwell effect with the first color block. I want to know if I can some how add in or fill in stitches on that beginning edge on both sides to make it even with the rest of the blanket. I really dont want to start over as this has taken me several days already. Thanks so much for your help! Picture included to show what I’m dealing with.

Welcome to the forum. I’m sorry but I I can’t think of anything short of rip and redo. Think of it as and opportunity for improving your skills rather than I have to do this. It will get easier.

Thank you for your input! I did end up ripping it out and starting over. It is definitely a learning experience for me. I was sad to have to take it all out and start over, but I’m such a perfectionist that I wouldn’t have been able to handle that large of a problem.

Your knitting looks really good. You’ll have a blanket to be proud of.

Thank you! It’s for our 4th baby due July 11th. Our 3rd girl. I plan. To do a block of grey, then grey and mint, then mint, then mint and pink, then solid pink. I’ll share a picture when it’s done. The above picture took me all weekend so I’m guessing it will be awhile before I finish.

No advice but I love your colour choices! Grey goes so well with so many colours

Here’s the finished blanket after starting over! So glad I took the time to start over.

Very nicely done! You’ve mastered the hardest part of knitting, ripping back and starting over.

That was definitely very hard to do! I’m surprised I didn’t cry.

Good for you. You have to be tough to be a knitter. Not for the faint of heart.

You did beautifully. Frogging is hard but we all must come to terms with visiting the pond. :frog: :frog: :frog: If we knit we must tink and frog and fix mistakes. My motto: This is the last time I’m starting over for the last time. Knitting is knitting and I get a lot of mileage from my yarn.

Thanks for the support and encouragement everyone!
