Can anyone tell me how to decrease for the shoulder section for a basketweave poncho pattern?
I already have my basketweave pattern for 171 stitches (multiple of 19 stitches). I am working the poncho from the bottom up to the neck. So how do I go about decreasing for the shoulder section, to make it flares out from the shoulder down. Since it will be easier to decrease when I work from the bottom up.
Please help me and I would really appreciate it. Also, the decrease is from the shoulders up to the neck.
Thanks so much. :knitting:
are you following a pattern or are you working on this on your own?
No, I’m not following a pattern but I’m working on this on my own. Using a basketweave pattern designed for knitting a scarf, I’m transferring it over to making it into a poncho to wear.
And are you making it in the round? That’s trickier to keep the decreases in pattern, than if they’re flat pieces and seamed up. What’s the pattern stitch - how many knits and purls in the it?
I am kntting it in the round.
R1: knit
R2-R4: k4, p3, k5, p3, k4
R5: knit
R6-R8: p4, k3, p5, k3, p4
You could do k2tog on the k5, p2tog on the p5 blocks just on the shoulder area so on later rows you’d have k4 or p4.
Thanks so much suzeeq…I really do appreciate your help and wiseness.
