I’m working on a Boy’s Striped Cardigan and am having some issues with the first part…
PATTERN STITCH
K1, p1 Rib
Row 1 (WS): P1, *k1, p1; rep from *.
Row 2: K the k sts and p the p sts.
Rep Row 2 for k1, p1 Rib.
and it doesn’t look anything like what it should at the bottom of the cardigan…pattern is here:

Any help is greatly appreciated. I’m not at all sure what I’m doing wrong here.

What’s it look like? Are you sure you’re working in ribbing?
You don’t K the Ks as you saw them on the RS, you K the Ks as you see them on the WS after you turned.
So when you end one row (RS) with a K you turn and start the next row with a P. (I’m not sure I like the way Lion does their ribbing, I end up with a wide rib at the seam.)
Do you understand what is meant by knit the k sts, and p the p sts? On row 2, knit the knits (they look like Vs) and p the purls which look like bumps. Don’t try to figure out what you did on the previous row, just the sts as they look on the row you’re doing. This is the corrected link, btw… http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/60779A.html
I have been knitting the K’s and purling the P’s as instructed in the pattern…I have been keeping track of what the last stitch was on the previous row…if I end with a P then I start with a P. I have just been going along doing the P’s as P’s and the K’s as K’s.
That’s where you are messing up.
If you are purling when you start the row you ended on the previous side with a purl you are purling a knit stitch.
The back side of a K is a P and the back side of a P is a K. You want to do them as they are facing you not as you did them on the other side.
The way the pattern is written if you started with a K you will end with a K.
When you turn you will start the next row with a P and end with a P.
So all your RS rows will start with a K and end with a K and all your WS rows will start with a P and end with a P.
Take not of how you are counting your rows so you know whether the odd or even numbered rows should be started with a K or P. (The way I count them has the odd rows RS so my odd rows start and end with Ks on the Lion patterns I’ve looked at.)

The patt is correct:
Row 2: K the k sts and p the p sts.
You work the sts as they appear, not what you did to them on the previous row.
