Help for knitting with two colors?

Hi Everyone, I wanted to knit a scarf with mainly one color except for a stripe of a different color at both ends. Does anyone know where I can find any how to videos?

Are you looking for a “how to knit a scarf” video or for one to show how to use two colors of yarn? I’d try either just a google search or go to youtube and search there. Do you already have a pattern you want to use? You could post a link that would help with more specific questions.

Are you just knitting all stitches so you’re doing garter stitch? You don’t need a pattern to knit with two colors. Just cast on with one color and knit as much as you want, change colors by just starting to knit with the main color and go as far as you want, then switch back to the stripe color and finish it off.

Start out knitting your scarf with the stripe colour you have chosen. Cast on with it and knit it til it is the length you want it to be, then at the end of a row, cut this yarn leaving about a 12" tail.
Take a new colour and take a stitch as usual but with the new colour as you wrap.
I often like to twist the old yarn around the new yarn as I do that first stitch so it will stay in place.
Then continue with your scarf until it is as long as you want it, cut that yarn leaving a 12" and use the new yarn to stitch with, wrapping the old yarn around the new yarn to hold it in place.
This can be done a couple of times so that it doesn’t come undone and when you are finished with your scarf, make sure you are able to tuck in these stray yarn pieces by weaving them into the back of your scarf as nicely as you can.
If it makes you feel better, instead of wrapping the old yarn around the new one, you can just tie them loosely in a knot to be taken apart and woven into the finished product later.

Or if you want to knit with the stripes oriented in the other direction, so that you’re knitting with the main color and the stripe color in the same row, you could use the intarsia technique. The cross of the two colors will show on the opposite side if you do it this way however. That’s not a problem with the ways the ladies have describe above.

Thank you for all the helpful suggestions. I had a little trouble understanding but i will check on you tube. I wanted to do a few rows of black then a thin gray stripe then continue in black almost all the way then do another stripe of gray and end with the same amount of black rows at the end. I am doing all knitting, no pattern, I’m not ready for the patterns they confuse the heck out of me. Thanks again everyone!!

That’s easy and there’s no trick to it, just cast on and knit as much as you want of the black, then cut the yarn and start knitting the gray stripe. When you have what you want cut that yarn and start knitting with the black again. You could carry the other color up the side, but it’s not recommended for more than a few rows or it’ll be obvious so cutting is the best method.

You’ll have tails from the ends, but you can weave those in when you’re done or after you’ve done a few inches past them. Here’s a good tutorial on weaving in the ends.
