Just confused by these instructions regarding the rib and how it going to affect the rib - so cast on is 78 which means row 1 ends in KKP which I altered to KKK - is that right? How should I start row 2? I find it really confusing
2x2 rib should work out on an even number of cast-on stitches, in this case it should end with k2. It seems like you probably miscounted something. Either you actually cast on 77 or 79, or you missed a paired stitch somewhere.
Recount from the beginning, saying “k2, p2” as you go, to find the miscounted stitch.
There shouldn’t be any need to alter anything in a pattern unless you are purposely modifying it for a reason (which as a new pattern reader I doubt is your intention at this early stage) so if you come across something which doesn’t fit the number of stitches you have on the needles then either your stitch count is incorrect for some reason (miscounted or dropped stitch or accidental yarn over etc which increased or decreased the stitch count) or the pattern has an error.
Recounting your stitches is a good idea, looking at each witch to see if it looks normal or odd.
If it’s a pattern error posting about it here to check would be a good idea.
Hope you manage to find where the stitch count changed.
