I have been knitting 13 stitches in garter for 2 inches , now instruction tells me to add 17 stitches to next 2 rows. What is the best method of adding these stitches?
What is the pattern? How does it word ‘adding on’ sts? Does it say cast on/add 17 sts to the beg of the next 2 rows? If that’s it, then you use the knit or cable cast on with the needle with sts in your left hand.
Sometimes you need to add a set amount of stitches to a pattern. Since the pattern may have been written for several sizes there is no way to designate the specific way to add the stitches.
Take the total number of stitches you are working with and divide by 17. For instance 104 stitches divided by 17 = 6 + a really long remainder. So you want to add 1 stitch every 6 stitches.
There are many ways to add stitches a yo will likely leave a ‘hole’ so try M1. Look at the videos for increases and select the one that looks best.
Hope this helps.
That’s good if the additional stitches are to be evenly spaced. We really need to know how the pattern is worded in order to give an answer that won’t be confusing to the OP. Or maybe she’s figured it out…
