HELP: finishing and starting

Hey Everyone. So basically I just started knitting again and I decided the simplest thing to make is a scarf right? So I’m knitting a scarf for my cousin. When I asked her what her favourite colour was she replied purple and orange so I started making her a purple scarf. now I am practically finished my ball of yarn and I am half way through, so I thought I’ll make the other half orange although I know it will look tacky but she’s 5 so it will not be that bad. THe only problem is, I dont know how to finish my knitting or start it (someone had started this one for me).

Thank you so much!

what you can do is when you run out of purple yarn (leave at around 4 inches of the end to be able to weave in later,) just start knitting the next row with the orange yarn (again, leave around 4 inches of the orange yarn also to weave in later.) you don’t need to actually bind off/cast off (end your knitting) until you are actually at the end of the scarf. you will go back later and weave in the purple and orange tail on the wrong side of the work.

check out the videos for casting off here

hope this is helpful!

Thank you so much! Im still a little hazy on what I have to do though. So i basically keep knitting but instead of purple i use orange? then when Im done the scarf i bind off?

correct, you’ll just keep knitting with the purple until you’re just about to the end of the yarn (complete a whole row though, don’t stop or start in the middle with the purple) and then just drop the purple yarn and start knitting the next row with the orange. You’ll then have an orange end and a purple end dangling from the middle of the scarf, which you will weave in later. Then just continue working with the orange yarn until you run out or feel like it, and then you will bind off.

Okay great thanks so much. Your a lifesaver
